Manitou Island Lighthouse
As we pull away from Gull Rock we take the short trip around the southern portion of Manitou Island. A small row boat is ashore against the trees. Perhaps blown there from a mighty Lake Superior storm? The shoreline of the island is raw molded by years of storms and waves. The cliffs and reefs along the shoreline sparkle against the afternoon sun. As the lighthouse comes into view we are again struck by the sheer number of buildings that exist out here. Amazed the power of the lake has not swept all away. Yet, the lighthouse continues on as a functional aid to navigation.
