North Entry Lighthouse
We travel down the shoreline for our last lighthouse on the tour. As we come up on McLain’s State Park we see the North Entry Lighthouse coming out on the “breakers” into Lake Superior. Flanked by sandy beaches on both sides of the breakwater the lighthouse is a steel white fortress upon the lake. It guards the entry into Portage Canal and as we enter the mouth of the canal almost immediately the choppy waters of Lake Superior are calmed. On the other side of the canal at Breakers Beach we see work happening on the stamp sands. It has been a long tour and the easy goings of Portage Canal takes us lazily back into port.
