"Thou Shalt Have No Other Gods Before Me." (Exodus 20: 3)
Commanded:
Loving God supremely, worshipping Him as the only true God, glorifying
Him accordingly, glorying in Him alone, desiring Him and trusting Him
exclusively.
1. Do you really know who God is - as He has revealed Himself to you in His revelation of Himself? Do you anxiously search the Scriptures to learn more about Him? Do you hunger and thirst to know Him better?
2. Do you even begin to grasp
it: that He is the triune God - God of wisdom, love, justice, the
Almighty God? the high and holy One who, nevertheless, loved you so
much He humbled himself to become "God in the flesh" for you? to redeem
you and possess you for His own?
3. Even if you cannot
begin to grasp it (who can?) is your inner life changed because of what
you know about Him? Because He is who He is are you filled with reverential fear of Him? afraid of sinning against Him? fearful of displeasing Him? dishonoring Him?
Are you also filled with peace
because you "know Him, whom you have believed"? because you have
entrusted your soul into His safekeeping? because you rest confident in
His almighty care for you?
4. Because He is who He
is, are you willing to have him do anything with you that pleases Him?
to have Him do anything to you that pleases Him, and glorifies
Him? Are you confident that whatever He brings into your life is
good and wise? because He is good and wise?
