7 Deadly Sins & 7 Life Giving Virtures
Day 2
Aug 7, 2005

Gift of Understanding
Permanent capacity to receive the light of Jesus' understanding, so that we can use it to make acts of, and develop habits of, supernatural understanding.  We need these acts and habits to understand our relationships with the Divine Persons, Mary, the Angels, the Saints, and each other in His Kingdom of Love, and what it means for each of us personally.

Virtue of Hope
Permanent capacity to receive the power of Jesus' commitment to His Father's Will and plan, so that we can use it to make acts of, and develop habits of, supernatural hope.  We need these acts and habits to resolutely and perseveringly commit ourselves to God and His Kingdom of Love.  The commitment incorporates us into the Kingdom.

Capital Sin: Gluttony
Numbs the mind and prevents understanding of God's plan and Covenant, and so forestalls commitment to them.  Glutton addicts us to pleasures of food and drink as cheap substitutes for the true meaning of life and for commitment to God.
