Gift of Fortitude
Permanent
capacity to receive the light of Jesus' mental fortitude (fortitude of
mind), so that we can use it to make acts of, and develop habits of,
this gift. They enable us to use our imagination and memories to
produce or recall images of Jesus which turn on or turn off emotions or
courage, confident commitment, enthusiasm, fear, despair, and anger.
Virtue of Fortitude
Permanent
capacity to receive Jesus' power of "intestinal" fortitude (fortitude
of heart), so that we can use it to make acts of, and develop habits
of, supernatural fortitude. These acts and habits enable us to focus
Jesus' emotions of courage, confident commitment, and enthusiasm on
doing God's Will; and their emotions of fear, despair, and anger on
sin, false hopes, Satan, etc.
Capital Sin: Anger (cruel/vicious/uncontrolled)
Produces
a false conscience and moral weakness. Addicts us to murderous,
insane, vindictive, and vengeful thoughts, speech, and actions as
perverse substitutes for fortitude of mind and heart.
